Dr. Erickson is married. His wife Karen, is a High School English teacher and they have 3 children, Matthew, Nathan, and Elizabeth.

On a personal note, Dr. Erickson played bass guitar in the band "Gigawatt", which was a rock-n-roll band and he also ran in the 2009 Grandma's Marathon.
